Welcome to "Scott Gawne Photography", a collection of some of my favorite photographs dating back to the spring of 2004. I've always enjoyed browsing through professional photographs and frequently found myself trying to mimic similar shots and styles. But it wasn't until the fall of 2007 when I really started to spend some serious time devoted to photography that it became a hobby of mine.

September 2007 I purchased my first DSLR (Canon 40D) camera and loved it. I couldn't get enough of all the features and manual controls, now I just had to learn how to use them all. I purchased a few photography books and started reading online articles an blogs. The more I learned the more I wanted to learn and the more expensive things got. I started purchasing more equipment and taking a lot more photos. In December 2007 I decided I would create my own website so I could share these photos with friends, family and anyone else that was interested. This is the result, Scott Gawne Photography (sgawne.com)!

About Scott:

I love to be outdoors when I can. As you browse through the photos on Scott Gawne Photography you will probably notice most of the shots reflect that, a large percentage are taken at parks. Living in the Washington DC area couldn't make this any easier. Washington DC is full of city life and has an excellent counter balance of outdoor parks and recreation areas. I love taking my mountain bike along the trails both sides of the Potomac River.

Before I moved to Washington DC I spent 20 years growing up in Warren, MI. My high school graduation class was about 180 students in 2000. I went on to earn a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University in 2004. Just prior to graduation I was offered a job with Lockeed Martin where I continue to work today. Photography is a hobby for me, not a profession. My hope is some day I can turn photography into a part time job.

Camera's and Equipment:

I no longer own any film cameras but I do own the following 4 digital cameras:

What Photography Means to Me:

"Photography is the ability to present something strange, ugly or unusual in a beautiful way."
"Photography is is the ability to capture people in their the most precious and vulnerable moments."
"Photography is the ability to see the world differently."
"Photography is art."
