Destroying a Credit Card Properly
You might think cutting your card into a couple pieces is sufficient enough to securely destroy it and all data attached to it but that’s not true. All credit cards have a magnetic strip along the back that and some have a small computer chip built in. Both Tof these along with the actual number should be dismantled enough that data can no longer be recovered.
Lifehacker has article with an accompanying video from creditcards.com about securely destroying a credit card with 15 cuts of your scissors. The video shows you exactly where to make each cut so you’ll effectively destroy all information. A hammer and strong magnet are also recommend.
